If your Friendship Lamp won’t connect during setup, it’s usually caused by a common network setting. The tips below cover the most frequent issues and how to fix them.
1. Your Network Must Support 2.4GHz Wi-Fi
Friendship Lamps connect to 2.4GHz Wi-Fi networks.
Most routers broadcast both 2.4GHz and 5GHz networks. In many homes these are combined under the same network name.
In most cases this works automatically. If setup fails, try connecting your phone to the 2.4GHz network during setup.
👉 See: How to Tell if Your Wi-Fi Is 2.4GHz or 5GHz
2. Your Phone Must Be on the Same Wi-Fi Network
During setup, the phone running the Friendship Lamp app must be connected to the same Wi-Fi network you want the lamp to use.
If your phone is connected to:
• cellular data
• a different Wi-Fi network
• a guest network
the lamp may not connect successfully.
3. Shared or Public Networks May Block Smart Devices
Some networks block devices like Friendship Lamps from connecting.
This is common on:
• dorm or campus networks
• apartment or building-wide Wi-Fi
• workplace networks
• public Wi-Fi networks
If the network blocks smart devices, the lamp may not be able to come online.
In these cases, you may need to use a home router or personal hotspot.

4. Mesh Wi-Fi Systems Can Sometimes Cause Setup Issues
Some modern routers (such as mesh systems) automatically switch devices between different access points in your home.
During setup, this can sometimes interrupt the connection between your phone and the lamp.
If you have a mesh system, try:
• standing near your router during setup
• temporarily moving closer to the main router node
Once the lamp is connected, it will blink blue for approximately 2 minutes each time it reconnects then usually works as normal.
5. VPNs Can Interfere With Setup
If you are using a VPN on your phone, it may prevent the app from communicating properly with the lamp.
Try temporarily disabling the VPN while completing setup.
You can turn it back on after the lamp is connected.
6. Your Router May Need a Restart
If the lamp was previously working but won’t reconnect, restarting your router can help.
Unplug your router.
Wait 30 seconds.
Plug it back in.
Wait a few minutes for your internet connection to restore.
