If you’re having trouble connecting your Friendship Lamp, your router settings may need a quick adjustment. Here’s a checklist you can go through to make sure everything’s set up correctly:
✅ 1. Confirm 2.4GHz Is Available
Make sure your router is broadcasting a 2.4GHz WiFi network, and that it’s separated from your 5GHz network.
Tip: Some routers combine both into one network name. If possible, split them into two separate names (SSIDs) so you can choose the 2.4GHz network during setup.
✅ 2. Disable WiFi Optimizer or Smart Connect
Some routers have a “WiFi Optimizer,” “Smart Connect,” or similar setting that automatically switches devices between 2.4GHz and 5GHz.
Turn this off temporarily while setting up your lamp so it can stay connected to 2.4GHz.
✅ 3. Restart Your Router
A quick reboot can solve a lot of hiccups:
-
Unplug your router
-
Wait 10 seconds
-
Plug it back in
Once it restarts, try the connection again.
✅ 4. Look for Blocked Devices
If your router has a security layer or filter, it might block the lamp’s connection. Check your router’s connected devices list.
The lamp may appear as:
-
ESP-XXXXX
-
Espressif IoT
If you see that name, the lamp is trying to connect but may be blocked.
✅ 5. Temporarily Turn Off Firewalls
If your firewall is preventing the lamp from connecting, try turning it off just during setup.
Once the lamp is successfully connected, you can turn your firewall back on.
✅ 6. Set a Fixed WiFi Channel
On the 2.4GHz band, manually set the channel to 1, 6, or 11. These channels are the most stable and least likely to interfere with smart devices like Friendship Lamps.
✅ 7. Use Compatible WiFi Security Settings
Make sure your WiFi is set to WPA1 or WPA2 Personal.
Avoid using WPA1/WPA2 Mixed Mode, as it can cause connection issues.
ℹ️ Additional Troubleshooting Tips
📱 Make Sure Your Phone is on 2.4GHz Too
The phone or tablet you're using for setup should also be connected to the 2.4GHz network. If it’s on 5GHz, the lamp might not pair properly.
🔐 Hidden Networks
If you don’t see your 2.4GHz network in the list, it might be hidden.
Check your router settings to see if the SSID is set to “hidden.” You can unhide it, or manually enter the network name during setup.
📶 Device Limits
Some routers have a maximum number of devices that can connect at once.
If you're near the limit, try disconnecting another device and then try setting up your lamp again.
🔁 Restart After Changes
If you change any router settings (like splitting networks or disabling Smart Connect), restart your router before reconnecting your lamp.
