If your Friendship Lamp won’t connect during setup, your router settings may be affecting the connection.
Most lamps connect automatically, but the checklist below can help if you're having trouble.
Before You Start:
Turn off any VPN or privacy apps on your phone (like DuckDuckGo App Tracking Protection or Norton VPN).
1. Make Sure Your Network Supports 2.4GHz Wi-Fi
Friendship Lamps connect to 2.4GHz Wi-Fi networks.
Most modern routers broadcast both 2.4GHz and 5GHz networks. In many homes these networks are combined under one name.
In most cases this works automatically. If setup fails, you may need to temporarily connect your phone to a 2.4GHz network during setup.

2. Restart Your Router
A quick restart can fix many connection issues.
Unplug your router.
Wait 30 seconds.
Plug it back in.
Allow a few minutes for the internet connection to fully restore.
Then try connecting your lamp again.
3. Check for Router Features That Switch Networks Automatically
Some routers use features like:
• Smart Connect
• Wi-Fi Optimizer
• Band Steering
These features automatically move devices between 2.4GHz and 5GHz networks.
If setup is failing, temporarily disabling these features during setup may help your lamp stay connected to the correct network.
4. Check Your Router’s Connected Devices List
During setup, your lamp may briefly appear in your router’s device list as:
• ESP-XXXXX
• Espressif IoT
This means the lamp is attempting to connect.
If your router has device blocking or parental controls enabled, make sure the lamp is not being blocked.
5. Check for Network Restrictions
Some networks have security settings that prevent smart devices from connecting.
This can happen on:
• apartment or shared building WiFi
• workplace networks
• campus networks
• heavily secured home routers
If this happens, you may need to allow the device in your router settings or use a different network.
6. Restart After Making Router Changes
If you adjust router settings (such as enabling 2.4GHz or disabling Smart Connect), restart your router before trying setup again.
This allows the new settings to take effect.
Additional Tips
Make Sure Your Phone Is on the Same Wi-Fi Network
The phone or tablet running the Friendship Lamp app must be connected to the same Wi-Fi network you want the lamp to use.
Hidden Networks
If your Wi-Fi network is hidden, it may not appear during setup.
You may need to temporarily make the network visible or manually enter the network name.

Wi-Fi is working in my house but lamp is not connecting. It’s orange but when “firmly touching it” 3x’s it won’t change rainbow colors.
