There are several ways to connect a Friendship Lamp. The best method depends on your network and the device you are using.
Friendship Lamps App Setup
App setup is the recommended method for most customers using a standard home Wi-Fi network.
Use the app when:
- Setting up a lamp for the first time
- Connecting a lamp to a new Wi-Fi network
- Setting up someone else’s lamp using your phone
- Linking an existing lamp to a new or reinstalled app
- Updating Wi-Fi information
Download the Friendship Lamps App on a compatible phone or tablet and follow:
Friendship Lamp App Setup: Your Step-by-Step Guide
The phone or tablet must be connected to the Wi-Fi network you want the lamp to use.
Advanced Browser Setup
Browser setup allows you to connect the lamp without using the Friendship Lamps App.
Use the Advanced Setup Guide when:
- You cannot install or use the app
- App setup is not completing successfully
- You are using a computer
- You need to enter the network information manually
- Support has asked you to use browser setup
You will connect your phone, tablet, or computer directly to the lamp’s temporary Filimin_XXXXXX Wi-Fi network and enter the Wi-Fi information through a web browser.
See the Advanced Setup Guide for complete instructions.
Filimin Bridge Setup
A Filimin Bridge connects to a router or modem through an Ethernet cable and creates a connection the lamp can use.
A bridge may help when:
- Normal Wi-Fi setup is unsuccessful
- The router configuration is incompatible with the lamp
- The available router does not provide usable 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi
- The lamp needs a reliable connection near an Ethernet port
- Support recommends a bridge for troubleshooting or firmware updates
The bridge requires:
- An active Ethernet port
- A nearby electrical outlet
- Permission to connect networking equipment
See the Bridge Setup Guide for instructions.
Shared or managed networks
Networks at hospitals, dorms, assisted-living facilities, workplaces, hotels, and apartment buildings may restrict smart devices.
The app and browser setup methods cannot bypass:
- Browser sign-in pages
- Captive portals
- Device-registration requirements
- Network security restrictions
- Blocks on smart or IoT devices
Before attempting setup, ask the network administrator whether the lamp can be registered or whitelisted.
See How to Whitelist a Friendship Lamp on a Shared Network.
A personal hotspot or Filimin Bridge may be another option, depending on the location and available equipment.
Mobile hotspot setup
A personal hotspot can be used for setup, testing, or ongoing service.
The hotspot must:
- Have active internet service
- Broadcast a 2.4 GHz connection
- Allow connected devices to reach the internet
- Remain powered on whenever the lamp is in use
Some dedicated hotspot devices require activation through a cellular provider before they provide internet access.
Which option should I try first?
For most customers:
- Try Friendship Lamp App Setup
- Use Advanced Setup Guide if the app does not work
- Review the router troubleshooting checklist
- Consider a hotspot or Filimin Bridge if the network remains incompatible
- Contact support if setup continues to fail
