If you're trying to connect your Friendship Lamp on a shared Wi-Fi network—such as at a care facility, college dorm, workplace, or military base—you might run into restrictions that prevent it from connecting. These networks often have extra security measures, like:
-
Login portals (captive portals)
-
A requirement for both a username and password
-
Firewalls that block unknown devices
In these cases, your Friendship Lamp will likely need to be whitelisted by the network administrator before it can connect via our Direct to Wi-Fi setup.
💡 Have access to a personal router? You might be able to use a Filimin Bridge instead. Just check first—some shared Wi-Fi environments ban personal router-like devices (including bridges).
How to whitelist your Friendship Lamp
To get your Friendship Lamp approved (aka whitelisted) on a shared network, you'll need to give the network admin your lamp’s MAC address.
Where do I find the MAC address?
Your lamp's MAC address is the same as its 12-digit Device ID (also called a Filimin ID). You can find it:
-
On the bottom of your Friendship Lamp
-
On the back of your Friendship Frame
-
Below the barcode (usually a mix of letters and numbers)

What to do next:
-
Share the MAC address with your facility’s IT department or network admin.
-
Ask them to register or whitelist the device for Wi-Fi access.
-
If your facility allows user self-registration, check their online help center for a portal to add the MAC address yourself.
⚠️ Important: Friendship Lamps require a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi connection. If the shared network only offers 5 GHz, the lamp won’t be able to connect.
After whitelisting: Set up your lamp
Once your device has been approved on the network, you're ready to set it up!
👉 Go to our Advanced Setup Guide (browser setup) to complete the connection process.
What if the network still won’t allow my lamp?
If the shared network blocks unknown or smart devices—even after whitelisting—consider using a personal mobile hotspot instead.
