Yes, Friendship Lamps connect and communicate using Wi-Fi on the 2.4 GHz band. Friendship Lamps cannot be connected using Bluetooth, and you cannot plug the lamp itself directly into your router/modem via Ethernet. We have two setup options to choose from when connecting your Friendship Lamp: Using a Filimin Bridge, or our bridgeless online setup Direct to Wi-Fi.
Setup using a Filimin Bridge
Each lamp comes with a Filimin Bridge unit that can be connected to your router or modem using the included Ethernet cord. Setting up with the bridge is quick and easy, and your bridge casts a hidden 2.4 GHz signal that can be accessed exclusively and automatically by your Friendship Lamp. Once your lamp is online, you can move your lamp anywhere within range of your Wi-Fi signal, but the bridge needs to stay connected to your router. Our bridges are universal for all Filimin products, and multiple Filimin Devices in the same home can all connect to a single bridge.
For detailed instructions, see Connecting with the Filimin Bridge (Quick Setup).
Setup Direct to Wi-Fi
If you don't want to use the bridge, leave it disconnected, then grab a wireless device (smartphone, laptop, tablet, etc.) and head to our Filimin Manager for the Direct to Wi-Fi setup. Log into your account and select "Setup Wi-Fi & Register", or if you don't have an account yet, create one and you'll immediately be guided through the Direct to Wi-Fi setup steps.
For detailed instructions, see Direct to Wi-Fi/Advanced Setup (no bridge).
What if I don't have a 2.4 GHz band on my network?
Most home routers have both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands, though your 2.4 GHz band may be disabled, labeled as a guest network, or sharing an SSID with your 5 GHz band (Smart Connect). If you're not sure what band you're using, you can use a wireless device to view the properties for your home network in your network settings. If your network uses Smart Connect, where the optimal band is automatically selected for your device, our downloadable Automatic Setup (exclusive for Windows Laptops) may not work for you.
If you're using a single-band router with no 2.4 GHz band, or if you're unable to activate your 2.4 GHz band on your router, you can still use our Filimin Bridge to create a 2.4 GHz network for your Friendship Lamp to connect to. If you're trying to set up in a shared Wi-Fi environment with no physical access to a router and you're having this issue, you may want to consider using a hotspot for your Friendship Lamp.
